The Spring of Style

Spring has officially sprung at Victoria Square and this season, there is a trend to tick everyone’s fashion fancy. The 2012 collections will usher in a multitude of new looks; from cotton candy colours to strong sunset shades, monochrome minimalism to powerful prints, 1950’s Holywood to 1930’s Great Gatesby and ‘under the sea’ iridescence to sport luxe neon. Whatever way you wear it this Spring, wear it at Victoria Square.

Sugary Shades
Pretty is back and 1950’s kitsch in sugared almond shades is set to be the look of S/S 2012. Embrace all that is pale and interesting in icy blues, greens, rose and lemons. Daywear becomes decorative as Louis Vuitton inspired broderie anglaise and lace add some pretty to your wardrobe. There is a quirky edge to this trend, as Prada made vintage Americana ultra wearable. Think preppy checks, crop tops, cats eye sunglasses and ice cream sundae colours. Vintage will hit the high street, so prepare to experience the girliest of Springs!

Sport Luxe
As the official year of the Olympics, fashion in 2012 has followed suite and sprinted into first place. New luxe sportswear becomes feminine, with punctuations of neon to give this trend an extra edge for Spring. Day time looks take a sporty spin, layering silky shorts and leggings over loosely tailored tops and blazers. Think dramatic cut away shapes and racer backs in neutrals for night, as seen at Victoria Beckham and neon for daywear gives your look a modern athletic spin. Add some iridescence to this for a quirky trend clash that is very 2012.

Bold Prints
Name a print and S/S 2012 is embracing it, so take your pick! Strong sunset coloured dresses in oranges and reds are the backdrop for graphic Aztec and modern tribal patterns. Watch florals, in monochrome, nude and brights blossom throughout high street collections, while Stella McCartney’s paisley designs inspire spring pyjama shape looks. If you are a fan of animal print, then the only patterns to incorporate into your Spring wardrobe are leopard, as seen at Michael Kors, and zebra at Gucci. Skirts, jackets, dresses, shirts,  cropped trousers, shorts – it’s all about your print!

Minimalist Tailoring
Precision cut tailoring will add couture elegance to your high street look. Graphic white and sharp shapes give this trend a clinical coolness that is a modern breath of fresh air this Spring. Play with shapes, as peplum becomes the season’s story. Create the Marc Jacobs Spring waist with tops and jackets that flare in all the right places, in monochrome and nude combinations that scream chic. If fuss is not your thing, then 2012 tailoring is the trend for you.

Gatsby Glamour
Embrace the flirty ‘20’s this S/S with art deco detailing emerging as the only trend to be seen in for evening. Nail this look in flapper dresses with monochrome and metallic palettes, as seen on the Gucci catwalk. Gold, black, white and nudes form a neutral backdrop to this era of glamour transferred to 2012. Feathers, tassels, beading and T-bars will become your best friends as the drop waist dress dances you through spring parties into summer nights.
